Turn to ash!!

smoke

A dingy, dark room;

filled with smoke.

Empty beer bottles lay beside.

A lip caressed cigarette,

burns bit by bit;

turns to ash and dies out.

I know that the title sounds quite  familiar, but; here I am referring particularly to the Metro railways of Kolkata and not the movie ‘Life in a Metro‘.

Life in Kolkata is dependent on Metro railway. It is, the lifeline of the city that connects it from one end to the other. No, this is not ‘The news’ I was talking about. Continue reading Life in a metro – Kolkata

Kolkata – the road less traveled

I stepped onto the land of Kolkata, almost a year back in September 2012. Hailing from Bangalore, it was a drastic step to relocate myself to a city that is so different from the one I was born and brought up in.
Kolkata greeted me with all its glory and broke me down just within the first few days of being here.
The day I reached  City of Joy  was when I realized that this city also has loads of bitterness, somber and sorrow folded in every corner.

Tram, Kolkata

It seems good to be a part of our ancestral heritage to see the rikshawala manually  pulling his cart from one corner of the street to the other while he rings his bell. But to me, it always seemed wrong get on their cart and let them pull me around. This simply reminds me of slavery to some extent.  However, my weight (after gorging on good food and chocolates) scares me to even think of making the rikshawala work so hard to earn that little wage. after all every girl feels that she has gained loads of weight  once she has gorged on to some good amount of calories right.

The thought of visiting a city filled with sweetness brought me here. I used to think that, everything that this city holds is sweet. So when I was actually here, it all seemed different. I still stand by by thoughts, there is sweetness in the air here. There is a bit of heritage in every nook and corner of this city and there is crap, dirt and bitters here and there too.

So if you want to enjoy all the goodies this city has to offer, you will have to move through the shortcomings as well.

Life in Kolkata is a lot more than what one expects. I shows you both the worlds (good and bad, new and old) living together in harmony.
